My Fascination with All Things Strange
I thought I’d start my first post off by expanding on my introduction that I wrote in the “About” page.
Hello, my name is Robin and I’m a prolific web publisher. I’ve got about a dozen or so websites and blogs. For quite some time I’ve been wanting to start a blog about the strange and unusual things that I come across on the web, strange things that I’ve experienced or seen and strange things that I’ve read or watched. Years ago I actually had an ezine where I would publish monthly some of the weird sites that I had come across; so this is sort of a resurrection of that idea.
I’ve always been sort of a strange person to begin with. And I’ve always had an interest in a lot of strange ideas and things. Of course, what’s strange to me may not be so strange to you. And I should also mention that my own definition of what’s strange is ever evolving.
A quick example… When I was young and in elementary school, I was introduced to dinosaurs by a new friend. He was nuts about dinosaurs and he showed me all the good books in the library about them. It was a wonderful and strange awakening to something that I had never heard about until that point. And I also remember that dinosaurs were a slightly taboo subject in my family while I was growing up. Today, of course I think nothing of the strangeness of dinosaurs, other than the fact that I find it wonderful and amazing that such beasts roamed this earth at one time.
On a similar note, at about the same time that I was discovering dinosaurs I was (if I recall the timeline correctly) discovering UFOs or rather books on UFOs. Before I reached age 12 I had read a considerable amount on the subject. It was strange and wonderful! Today, I still feel that the subject is to some degrees strange. I guess you could say that its one of those gray areas for me.
Myths, mythology and mythological creatures… Now there’s another gray area for me. Mythology in general has some strange tales. And yet, one person’s mythology is another person’s religion and vice-versa. I find this a fascinating and strange subject.
I’ve also always been a fan of strange news. Some of the things that get reported about just boggle my mind. Sometimes it’s funny and entertaining, other times just plain bizarre.
Basically, I intend for My Strange Blog to be an online notebook of sorts where I jot down some of the things that I find interesting and strange. It’ll include things like odd video clips, strange news, mini reviews of books and movies or videos I’ve watched and strange photographs I’ve snapped; things like that.
So, keep My Strange Blog handy in your list of favorite strange sites to visit; I think you’ll find this blog an interesting and entertaining blog to read on a regular basis.
