I Finally Read The Da Vinci Code!

The Da Vinci Code by Dan BrownAlthough I saw ‘The Da Vinci Code’ on the big screen and even own the DVD, until this week, I had never actually read, Dan Brown’s novel, ‘The Da Vinci Code’.

Now I’m sort of kicking myself for having waited so long!

Oh well, problem rectified. I just finished racing through ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and I feel like I’ve just completed a major quest of my own for the Holy Grail.

Racing, that’s the word for how I tackled this book. I found it to be a very fast paced mystery, full of twists and turns. It’s kind of funny, even though I’ve seen the movie, the book kept my attention and still managed to surprise me every now and then.

Naturally there are differences between the two mediums, so that was one of the things that I was interested in – to see just how different or how ‘faithful’ the movie had been to the novel.

One of the major differences in the novel and a much welcome one in my opinion were the further explanations and explorations of the symbolism that’s presented in the story. And that’s a key part, because without the symbols the clues that drive the quest forward are pretty meaningless or next to meaningless. It adds an extra dimension or layer to the story that I found to be fascinating.

One of the other things that I liked about this novel was that it confirmed a few things about history, places and people for me; things that I had read elsewhere; all sorts of little details. I realize that ‘The Da Vinci Code’ is a fictional story but what makes it a great yarn are the real details.

Another thing that ‘The Da Vinci Code’ has done for me is to hook me on Dan Brown. I realize now that I simply must read his other novels now.
