More Oak Island Secrets!
Last night I finished reading another book on the Oak Island mystery. This one is by Mark Finnan and is titled, ‘Oak Island Secrets‘.
Like the previous book I read about Oak Island, this one contains the same general account of the history behind this over two century mystery. However, the author did personally interview some of the participants in the Oak Island treasure hunt so there are differences in how some of the material is presented. Just to clarify though, William S. Crooker also interviewed participants as well for his book.
There are also some other major differences in this particular book. In ‘Oak Island Secrets’ Mark Finnan puts forward the theory of a Masonic/Rosicrucian connection. He also is of the strong mind that there is a strong possibility that Sir Francis Bacon or his associates were somehow connected to the Oak Island treasure pit. Finnan also delves into psychic insights of the island.
I’m not sure who came up with the original Masonic/Rosicrucian theory for this mystery, but Finnan provides some interesting and compelling insights as to why he believes that this connection exists.
‘Oak Island Secrets’ was originally published in 1995 and it was revised in 2002 with a few new updates on the search for the buried treasure. Despite these dates, the info is still good. The treasure still hasn’t been found and the mystery is just as shrouded as it was in 1795.
One of the things that ‘Oak Island Secrets’ re-emphasized for me was the possibility that after so much time and some rather brash and crude attempts to get at the treasure is the possibility that its been lost or destroyed; especially if the treasure is on more of a document type nature. Mark Finnan puts forward this possibility as well.
Over all, I thought that ‘Oak Island Secrets‘ provided some good insights into the mystery and it makes for a good addition to my library of unsolved mysteries type books.
