Knights Templar Headlines
The Knights Templar in the news this week due to a couple of related stories…
Now, I realize that the Knights Templar were disbanded or disolved way back when (however which way you like to phrase it)… However, many freemasons consider themselves (their organization anyway) the heirs or decendents of the Templars. I found it kind of interesting that the NY Times in the 1890’s often refered to various masonic lodges as Knights Templar (and other dates as well actually). In any event I’m digressing…
An organization called The Association of the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ is suing the pope/vatican… That story at The Telegraph here: Knights Templar heirs in legal battle with the Pope
Also at The Telegraph is an opinion blog piece by one of their columnists: Knights Templars tilt at Vatican windmill
One of the articles I read today on this mentions that The Association of the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ has a website, but darned if I can find it right now. If I find it, I’ll see what if anything they have to say on their site about this legal battle.
So, what prompted all this? I’m guessing the release of the Chinon Parchment. The Vatican was selling a limited edition of life-sized replicas of a giant forgotten parchment, called the Chinon Parchment that absolves the Knights Templar of their status as heretics. There were only 800 copies available apparently and the 800th copy was to be presented to Pope Benedict XVI. (Related News on that.)
The Ottawa Citizen published yesterday a huge article on this Mythbusting manuscript.
Facinating and strange history.
