Journey to the Center of the Earth Reviewed
This past weekend, I went and watched ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth - 3D’ starring Brendan Fraser, which of course is based on the classic Jules Verne novel ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth.’
Now, although the latest movie is billed by New Line Cinema as ‘based’ on the classic adventure tale it is really a different story and that pays homage to the original story. In fact, numerous references in the movie are made about Jules Verne’s novel. Personally, this didn’t bother me.
I went into the movie, having not read anything at all about it before hand. I just happened to see the movie poster for it when I went and saw the latest Mummy movie (also starring Brendan Fraser) and thought that it might be a good summertime movie to watch. Besides which, it’s in digital 3D and 3D movies are rare and kind of a treat.
No preconceptions of what it should be… I just went in, sat back and enjoyed the movie and the 3D experience for what it was – an entertaining adventure.
So, what’s this entertaining adventure about? Well basically, Prof. Trevor Anderson and his nephew Sean Anderson go off on a trek to Iceland because they’ve discovered an interesting anomaly that ties in with the date that Trevor’s brother Max disappeared. Together, with the help of their guide Hannah Ásgeirsson (Anita Briem) whose father ran the Asgeirsson Institute for Progressive Volcanology, they journey deep beneath the Earth’s surface, where they travel through a never-before-seen world and encounter a variety of unusual creatures. Or is it really a ‘never-before-seen world’?…
So yes, I thought that ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth - 3D’ was a visually stunning movie and a pretty entertaining movie at that. Highly recommended watching!
