Thursday’s Terrific Oddities

Strange NewsThursday’s strange news includes some ghostly news, spilled secrets, a bit of history a couple of updates on what I’m researching; UFOs, the Sasquatch, Spy games and more.

My Strange Research:

I’ve got a couple of strange research projects on the go right now. I’m reading a book by Graham Hancock that I hope to write a review on in the near future. So, keep your eyes glued on this site for that.

The other research project that I’m working on is the history of a certain vintage alien photograph. I’ve actually been working on this one off and on for awhile. Not sure when exactly I’ll post my findings.

UFO Stuff: The news from Romania: UFO spooks Dracula country (The mayor of Mezoband hopes to increase tourism into the area by promoting it as a Romanian ‘Roswell’.)

Ghostly News:

- Four out of ten Britons believe in ghosts. (London has the highest proportion of people who believe in ghosts, astrology and Heaven, Scotland has the highest proportion who believe in fortune-telling and Wales has the highest proportion who believe in reincarnation.)

- Also from the UK: Salon’s ghost is hair-raising!

- Taiwan police arrest man “possessed by 5 ghosts” for throwing money on expressway. (His mom says he’s mentally unstable because of drug addictions.)

Database Watch: DNA pioneer: drop innocent from database — Father of genetic fingerprinting says thousands ‘branded as criminals’.

Spy Watch: MI5 and MI6 unable to stop Secret Wars’ publication — New Volume names members of intelligence and security services who have not previously been identified. (Hmm little late to think about that. It came out at Amazon a month ago.)

Merc Watch: Used to be, that mercenaries were proud to call themselves ‘Mercs’ and even ‘The Dogs of War’…Not anymore. ‘Stability Contractors’ is the new PC buzz word the International Peace Operations Association is flogging. U.S. Mercenaries to UN Stop Using the Word ‘Mercenary’ in Your Investigation into Mercenaries War on Iraq.

Ancient History: University of Toronto archeologists discover temple that sheds light on so-called Dark Age.

Mythology & Art: The Korean Cultural Service of New York has a Contemporary Mythology – Group Show At Gallery Korea until May 1, 2009.

Monsters: MonsterQuest has an upcoming episode on the Sasquatch on Wednesday, April 29 09:00 PM and Thursday, April 30 01:00 AM. It’s called: Mysterious Ape Island. Oddly, it turns out this ‘mysterious little island’ is in actual fact Vancouver Island. I was born and raised there and its a lot bigger and less creepy than what the blurb makes out. And I’ve never heard of my home refered to as ‘Ape Island’. Still, there’s always been legends of wild-men on Van Isl…It may make for a decent diversion.
