Most Wanted Terrorist Rebukes World On Climate Change and the Greenback

Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda, and the FBI’s most wanted terrorist, took time out this week from running from capture to deliver a rebuke to the world on climate change and talk about the American greenback; I kid you not.
Where Is Osama bin Laden?
Osama bin Laden’s “green message” was delivered to his broadcaster of choice, Al Jazeera. “This is a message to the whole world about those responsible for climate change and its repercussions – whether intentionally or unintentionally – and about the action we must take. Speaking about climate change is not a matter of intellectual luxury – the phenomenon is an actual fact,” bin Laden is quoted as saying on Al Jazeera’s English-language Web site.

Speaking of “green messages”, bin Laden also had this to say: “Noam Chomsky was correct when he compared the US policies to those of the Mafia. They are the true terrorists and therefore we should refrain from dealing in the US dollar and should try to get rid of this currency as early as possible.”

It’s curious that for someone who’s so high on the list of most wanted terrorists that A) he hasn’t been found yet — he’s been “running” for years now. B) He would take the time to thumb his nose at the U.S. and the world for that matter to address climate change and the American dollar.

Of course, this all hinges on the premise that Osama bin Laden is actually still alive. Most of the time I think he still is alive. On my more whimsical days I speculate that he’s hiding out not in Afghanistan or Pakistan, or somewhere in the Middle East, but in Europe; the Vatican to be specific. Safely tucked away under the Pope’s protection and having tea with him…Every now and then he feels inspired to use the Vatican studio (they do have one right?) to record his messages, just to show the world that we still haven’t caught up to him.

On the other hand, I also find him a convenient puppet that suits both American intelligence agencies and al-Qaeda. If he’s dead, from some Western perspectives there’s no bogey man hiding out there, directing and masterminding world-wide terrorism and the battles in Afghanistan. And from the al- Qaeda perspective, it helps to have this renegade icon that’s blatantly thumbing his nose at the world and the U.S. in particular. If Osama bin Laden is dead or when he finally does die, it wouldn’t hurt al-Qaeda to not admit it. Of course there is the “martyr strategy”. Still, from both side’s perspectives it doesn’t hurt to have Osama bin Laden popping up every now and then, or at least recordings of him speaking his mind on the issues of the week.

Will we ever fully know the truth about Osama bin Laden, where he’s been and what his full role in world events has been? Probably not for a very long time.

In the meantime, Osama aka Usama Bin Laden is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998, bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorist attacks throughout the world. There’s still a reward of $25 million for information leading directly to the apprehension or conviction of him. And there’s an additional $2 million being offered through a program developed and funded by the Airline Pilots Association and the Air Transport Association.

And also in the meantime, I think we can expect to continue to hear messages from bin Laden for quite awhile to come, leaving us to all speculate on where in the world is Osama bin Laden.
